What Is Ride for a Rehab?

Ride for a Rehab is one of a kind and never done before event which is hitting the streets of Perth on Saturday the 12th of October 2019.

We expect to have more than 1000 motorcycles as well as over 500 vintage and sports vehicles from all over Western Australia take part in this event. This will draw incredible publicity to our state as well as highlight the need for rehabilitation centres to be rolled out across Australia. This in turn will reduce the need to expand our prisons.

Sporting personalities and prominent public figures will be attending; this event is fast attracting media attention with a local radio station locked in for a live broadcast. The guest speaker on the day will be Police Commissioner Chris Dawson. During the afternoon session Peter Lyndon-James, Founder and CEO of Australia’s largest, strictest and most effective live-in rehabilitation centre, will speak about Australia’s drug epidemic and issues in our prison system. The Commissioner will give his insight and perspective on the issues the W.A. Police face on the front-line. As a community, we can make a difference.

Addiction is gripping our communities more than ever, however, not everyone caught up in addiction is a bad person. Most importantly, families should not be ashamed of finding themselves in a position where their loved one is addicted to substances. Rather than punishment, more-often-than-not addicts need intensive rehabilitation with strict boundaries and guidelines. Families too require support, with guidance educating them to do the right thing to help their loved ones. Often, sadly, they think they are helping when in fact they are enabling; they think they are doing the right thing, when in fact they are doing the wrong thing.

Our prisons are filled to the brim and largely contribute to the endless vicious cycle of re-offending. The cost to the taxpayer is $110 000 per person per year without the added cost of looking after wives and children. This includes counselling and community support services that care for the families whilst the role model or father figure of the home is incarcerated. Locking a person in a prison with no effective rehabilitation program in play effectively works at destroying the family structure, as well as the next generation. Prisons breed criminals, they resource prisoners, they destroy communities and in turn, our families. The purpose of our event is to highlight the need for rehabilitation, as opposed to incarceration, within our state and across the country.

We believe that we have developed a holistic program, at a cost to the government of only $13 600 per person per year, that can be implemented across our country. Our program puts 100% responsibility for rehabilitation into the hands of the person who has made the choices that have landed them where they are.

Rehabilitation for the person who is serious about wanting to change – with the right screening process – provides an alternative to incarceration that is viable and preferable. A person who has committed a crime or offence is held accountable and at the same time rehabilitated effectively through our program, rather than being locked in a cell. By supporting this event you are supporting families and individuals in need as well as increasing awareness of an issue which affects all areas of society.
